Bruce Dickey requested that I post progress pics of my archtop, so here it goes.

B&S: euro maple
top: Sitka
neck: Bigleaf Maple
FB: Ebony
Inlay: Gold MOP, Black MOP, River pearl, African Blackwood

I built it mostly from the benedetto book. The major differences being, a bolt on neck and truss rod adjustment through the head stock using a long ballend allen wrench.

Right now it is just stained, I will try to finish it in the next couple of days.

Thanks,
Matt

Beautiful...the binding on the f-holes really catches my eye for some
reason - it isn't obtrusive, it just looks really nice. I also like the inlay on
the back of the neck.

Were there any pics of progress prior to this point - that baby is just a
couple steps away from being completely done!

Thanks for the compliments Jay. Sorry I don't have any previous progress pics, This is my first Archtop so I was concentrating on getting it done. Plus I was afraid to bring my camera in the shop beacuse of all the dust from the angle grinder I used to carve it!

Wow. Hey Folks, Matt's a great arteeeeeeeest in WOOD. I was totally amazed at his work in person. Here he goes again. Congratulations Matt on a fine looking box and neck. Is there anything you "can't" do?

What about the second round?

That's looking relly good Matt. I'd like to see a picture when all together. Nice job on the inlay.

Looks like you're well on your way there, Matt!
Are you going to access the neck bolt via the endpin hole? (allen wrench with extension)

That's shaping up very nicely, Matt! So what's the story behind that back-of-neck inlay--a tragic rasping accident? Looks cool, BTW.

Matt -- that is looking great! Tell me this isn't your first guitar?

I too am interested in how you made the bolt on neck.

Matt, looks great so far! Can't wait to see it with some finish on, man that will really pop the grain on that back. I was impressed with your work when we met at Bruce's, now I'm even more impressed! Sweet!

The tuner holes look a little close to the edge of the headstock. Will the tuning machines hang over the edge?

Thanks for the compliments everyone.

As far as the bolt-on neck it is pretty much a standard mortise and tenon joint with threaded inserts in the end. To access the bolts I use a 24"long x 1/4" drive extension through the endpin hole. It was a little tricky to maneuver at first but now it is a breeze.

Anthony- this is guitar #5 but my first archtop

Carlton- The neck inlay was totally intentional .
Actually I was using a friend's router table to route the truss rod slot, when the bit climbed out of the collet and went through the neck.

I'll post some pics when I shoot the lacquer.

Thanks again

Wow, that's looking great Matt. I plan to build an electric like that. I may have to get Bruce to wire it for me.     Very, very nice. Love to hear that one.

Matt, are the top and back both carved on that?
